    Hello hello
My name is Karina and I’m a graphic designer & illustrator based in “Vancouver”.
I love finding the aesthetics in life, and I try to incorporate everyday things into my work.
I’m keen on branding and editorial design, and enjoy playing around with illustrations and typography.

In my spare time I’m baking, taking long walks, or buying useless trinkets online.
Talk to me about anything ✌︎

Branding Project | Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign

Canterbury Books is a rebranding of an existing local bookstore, Canterbury Tales Bookstore, on Commercial Drive in Vancouver BC. While known and appreciated by the locals around the drive, I felt that the store could use a re-branding in order to attract more customers. The scope of this project included a brand style guide, a promotional campaign with advertisements, and miscellaneous merchandise to accompany the re-branding.

The logo is made out three elements: a book, a book title, and a character. The book title is the name of the store Canterbury Books, stacked. The character peaking out from behind the book is the Clerk character from the original Canterbury Tales books. He serves as the embodiment of the rebranded Canterbury Books: a man obsessed with books and learning.

The brand colours were chosen to emulate the calm intellectual feel of the brand's new identity, without sacrificing that cozy and warm vibe of a quaint bookstore.
In order to capture a bookish essence, I named the colours accordingly: paper white, bookmark green, and ink black.

The typography was chosen to mimic the contents of a book using a variety of font types; I used the serif font Big Caslon for the headings, the script font DunhillScript for subheadings, and the sans serif typeface Tofino from the Lost Type Foundry for the bodycopy.

The promotional campaign that I created for the bookstore, titled “All the Greats Had Something to Say About Love”, is a free book giveaway campaign where if you spend over $20.00 in-store or online, you get one of four promotional books for free.
The campaign features four literary greats and their respective book,: Jane Austen (Emma), Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre), Fyodor Dostoyevsky (The Brothers Karamazov), and Leo Tolstoy (War and Peace). Their portraits are used in the advertisements.
    The main ad designs.

The main ad mocked up on a billboard.

I also created some merchandise to go with the campaign: a paper bag for your purchase and your free book, and a hoodie that might be sold for a limited time during the campaign.
